CMEI

Dedicated to community environmental monitoring and stewardship in the host community within Saint John and Grand Bay – Westfield.

We represent the community in all aspects of the operation of the Crane Mountain landfill and are responsible for Monitoring all aspects of the site, protecting the environment in the communities adjacent to the landfill. We act, as the eyes and ears of the community. We review and select the Special Projects  that will receive grants from the host community enhancement fund. We recently reinstated continuing Education grants to recognize environmental work of high school graduating students in the host community.

CMEI was created by the New Brunswick government through an Order in Council in 1996.

MONITORING

As one of our most important focuses, CMEI is responsible for monitoring all the activity of the landfill, as well as representing the community and their environmental concerns.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

CMEI is tasked with distributing the Host Community Enhancement Fund of almost $100,000. Each year, we receive applications to assist with projects that make a positive impact in the host community and we make recommendations to the FRSC for which projects receive grants.

EDUCATION

CMEI has created a grant to be awarded to a student resident of the Hosting Community who is graduating from high school and who can demonstrate commitment and initiative towards conservation and improving the local environment.
